🏆 AFL Finals (2026)

The AFL introduced a new Wildcard Finals Round for the 2026 season, replacing the traditional pre-finals bye.

The top six teams on the ladder automatically advance to the traditional finals, while teams finishing 7th to 10th compete in the wildcard weekend:
Wildcard Weekend
  • 7th vs 10th
  • 8th vs 9th
Both wildcard matches are hosted by the higher-ranked team (7th and 8th). The two winning teams from this weekend secure the final two spots in the traditional eight-team finals bracket.
The remaining Top 8 finals schedule follows this traditional progression:
  1. Qualifying Finals (Week 1) – Played between the top 4 teams. The winners advance straight to the Preliminary Finals, while the losers advance to the Semi-Finals.
  2. Semi Finals (Week 2) – Losers of the Qualifying Finals host the winners of the Wildcard Round.
  3. Preliminary Finals (Week 3) – Winners of the Qualifying Finals host the winners of the Semi-Finals.
  4. Grand Final (Week 4) – The ultimate decider played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
